The natural gas detector is specially designed for all household situations. In particular where appliances may be left unattended or there is a risk of gas flames blowing out or being forgotten to be lit. It is mainly used for gas cookers but also can be used to protect fires and other gas appliances (e.g. for Care in the Community).

The Detector (with optional easy-fit valve) provides two key functions:

• it detects leaks long before the gas reaches unsafe levels

• it actively prevents danger by shutting off the gas supply to the appliance

A remote sensor can be connected to the detector to increase the coverage of the unit. The detector can also trigger remote alarms so that remote monitoring stations can be made aware of the gas detector triggering.

Active protection of the gas appliance is simple with a gas valve (Optional not included with this product). This valve has standard bayonet fittings which enable easy inline connection to existing appliances.

Application

Natural gas is usually very safe in that it is not poisonous. The main danger comes from a build up of escaping gas that can eventually reach explosive levels. These dangerous levels can build up through mistakes such as forgetting to light a gas ring or natural causes like a pilot light blowing out

This becomes a bigger problem where there are confused, elderly or infirm people who may be less aware of what is going on around them. In the worse case, leaking gas can build up to explosive levels.

Detecting the gas is the first part of the problem. The second is to shut off the gas, make sure it is not re-connected until safe to do so, especially if there are not likely to be competent people around.
