Indoor Air Quality and Winter.

Winter weather makes homeowners to tightly seal any cracks in insulation that could allow cold drafts into the home. This raises the concentrations of both allergens and pollutants in the home.

Therefore a combination of this, with the fact that We spend more time indoors can trigger allergies, illness and episodes of asthma.

Pollutants in the home come from a variety of sources: combustion sources, building materials and furnishing, Household cleaning and maintenance products, personal care products, Hobby or home improvement activities, Pets and outdoor sources such as radon pollen and lead.

It is very important as well to know what the pollutants are so that you know how to deal with them. The allergens and pollutants that can affect your indoor air quality are: Mold and mildew, Pet dander, dust mites, pollen, biological pollutants, Environmental tobacco Smoke, Formaldehyde, Various VOCs, Asbestos, Carbon monoxide and Nitrogen Dioxide, Lead.

There may be some immediate effects of poor indoor air quality that can include headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and itchy eyes, nose, and throat. Asthma can also be aggravated by exposure to indoor pollution.

It is still not known what level or period of exposure to indoor air quality are necessary to bring on serious health effects but there are some long-term effects  in individuals which include respiratory disease, heart disease, and cancer.
